College AUs
i'm so busy checking you out at the gym that i fall off the treadmill and you laugh so hard you drop a dumbbell on your feet so hey uhm do you wanna escort each other to the health center???
Silence, the glorious silence of no flatmates and no parties in the rooms adjacent. A sweet, sweet, rare night in college. Lucia was enjoying herself, until the door to their flat opened, and closed.
“Everything’s broken. I’ll never be able to move again.”
“Do you have to be so...dramatic?”
“Oh, the pain. Why don’t you understand how much pain I’m in?”
“You’re going to wake everyone up!”
“Good. They can all see exactly what you did to me.”
“You dropped the dumbbell on your own foot, you idiot!”
Lucia sighed and decided there was no point in pretending to be asleep and hoping the idiots would keep their latest quarrell to a reasonable volume. She opened the door to her room, slapped the switch on the wall that flooded the living area with orange light.
Mari was in the centre of the room with her...whatever they classed their relationship as (best friend? girlfriend? nemesis?) Marnie. Marnie was helping Mari walk, their arms around each other’s shoulders. Marnie had a plaster above her eyebrow, and a cast on her wrist. Mari had another cast around her foot and ankle.
“Um,” said Lucia.
“We were in the gym,” Mari said. “And Marnie fell off her running machine.”
“Okay.”
“And then I dropped the weight I was holding.”
“Okay.”
“Because it was really funny.”
“Mari!” Marnie interjected at this point, going a deep shade of red.
“It was,” Mari assured them both. “It was hilarious.”
“Okay,” Lucia said again, and closed her door. Outside, one of them yelped and another voice scolded. Noise cancelling headphones, she thought, going back to her memorization of the periodic table. She needed new headphones...
