Originally, waaaay back, I was playing against someone who could be pretty stubborn about the types of characters I played (I like to play failures; it doesn't mean all of them are) so I wanted to pull the rug out a bit by making a creepy small boy who was as competent as he was creepy.
That game didn't last long and I missed the little guy. So I aged him up a bit, removed some of the creep and sent him to Countshire! Where he forged a beautiful, universe spanning friendship w/ Diana. Then in Capesize I apped him to torture people because at least 90% of my thought process for Capesize was 'how will this wreck someone.' Then I apped him again in Capesize to be Ianthe's guardian in the secret hope that someone would push him out the bridge or smth like that cylon in BSG. I apped him in AM because there was a Diana already and she needed back up.
No, I apped him because I loved the idea of Nathan falling down stairs and resetting like a computer.
Then I apped him in GH b/c Arashi was apping Diana. Also because Dee as a guard was not working out for various reasons (by which I mean errr she wasn't failing enough and I didn't want to write that). I figured if I was going to play a guard who did their job well, I should be playing Lawful Neutral Hyper Competent Dick rather than someone who was written to be basically Chief Wiggum.

WHICH GAME THOUGH
WHICH
Okay, game-by-game:
1. Countshire: every time he lost his shit for some perceived mistake on the part of another person. Also every time he lost his shit because people weren't doing WHAT HE TOLD THEM TO DO AUGH YOU PEOPLE STOP BEING INDEPENDENT OF HIM.
2. Capesize: I can't remember a lot of what he did but I liked it when he died! I think he died a couple of times actually.
3. AM: I also can't remember I just remember every time he got exasperated was a super blast.
4. GH: Falling down the stairs.
3. my favourite piece of headcanon for this character.
He keeps a diary neatly annotated with his every movement. I could never do this in game because I'm a lazy fuck, but it seems very him. He's addicted to order.
4. Something about this character which makes me laugh.
He's named after a newsreader I had a crush on.
His weird flirtations w/ Umeka what the fuck Nikita
His entire relationship with Diana oh my god what
Falling down the stairs after he revealed himself as Diana's Fredo
I'm pretty sure he is sexually attracted to neatly filled in forms like that's probably a kink he has hey sexy mama fill in this in triplicate to really rev his engines
no seriously the bureaucratic system in Futurama is everything he's ever dreamed of
General dickheadedness I guess. I really Mutley laugh to myself a lot, writing him and reading him back. I guess it's hard to play some of these things and not be misinterpreted so I have to be careful with him in future, but I enjoy looking back at the golden moments we all shared. Nathan casually torturing some poor dudes w/ barbed words and endless forms!
5. Something about this character which makes me cry.
IDK! I find it difficult to feel empathy for Nathan. Maybe because in the Arrested Development AU of my cast (show me someone who doesn't secretly know where their characters would fit into the AD family and I'll show you a liar) he's closest to the Michael and I don't care for Michael. I guess there are aspects of him that fit into a lot of social awkwardness/anxiety/aversion - he never has friends or wants to be around people; he actively tries to drive people off. In Countshire he wouldn't go to the same shop twice if a clerk started making small talk with him. Nate is the kind of person who lives a very lonely life without realising that they're feeling really lonely.
6. One of your characters that I think would get along well with them
Ummmmmmmmm shit. Shit. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. S...iann? Will Siann fill out forms quietly for him? Adrian????
this isn't that long.
Aw man this dick. Let's just say I had my reasons. I also wanted to see what would happen if Rhea, Nathan and Zafer had a child. The answer was terrifying, as you would expect.
2. my favourite moment in canon for this character. / my favourite moment in the game for this character
FUCK. I had so many.
* Talking to Elia
* Going through the Hour with Rhys
* Killing the rabbit
* Running through the hour w/ Firedog!!!!!
* Getting nommed by Cristo
* Moirine's apology over the ledgers (that led to the final breakup in the taylor swift saga of their lives)
* writing formal letters a masterclass w/ mari ("my dearest
mrlord naevin can you get me someone to shadow lots of love mari")* losing the will to live while camping
* Pretty much every log/thread with Rhys/Cristo/Ermesinda/Silas/Marijke/Moirine although some of them could be pretty intense!
* i will name every SINGLE ONE OF HER THREADS YOU DUCKING WATCH ME.
3. my favourite piece of headcanon for this character.
* She and Cristo continue w/ their weird friendship into the 21stC. DOES THIS NEED TO BE STATED I WROTE A LITERAL NOVELLA ABOUT IT. I actually have email threads about, off the top of my head, their matching three howling wolves t-shirts, a horrible band they started and hunting girl scouts (she gets the cookies). They probably also watch Twilight with obnoxious commentary (the only way to watch it) that dissolves into fury on Cristo's part when the werewolf doesn't just kill Edward and drunkenness on Mari's part because Twilight.
** She wanted to be Cristo's friend because she thought that if he liked her, maybe he wouldn't kill her. Then she wanted to be Cristo's friend because he congratulated her for murdering Aldo and then, later, told her she wasn't a killer. Which was pretty different to everything else she'd been hearing. Not really headcanon.
* Playing the magical game of house arrest w/ Diana and handing over all info she can on the Whispers.
** No seriously I really enjoy the idea of her dropping by the Guard station and handing herself into Diana since she came pretty close to it pretty often at the end of the game.
* I also like the idea of her finishing her transfer to Adept completely quietly and w/ no friends, Marijke and Rowan just sort of sending her looks occasionally when they pass in the hall which she pretends she hasn't seen (for their own good, she says, but she's always been selfish), and then leaving. And turning up in France, and maybe finally finding a family there. I figured she'd travel along as a surgeon for hire (probably under a really imaginative pseudonym like Marianne Clew), meet a dude and help him get started as a merchant, then marry him. And then have things be super awkward when they take a trip back to Tyrol to sell some textiles and she bumps into people and pretends to be someone else.......again.
* It takes years for her to go back home. She tries to forget her own language and the name Llewelyn. But stuff keeps popping up over the years and reminding her until she finally takes her name/her language/the wrecked remains of the farmhouse she watched her family die in back!
4. Something about this character which makes me laugh.
I think she's pretty funny! Like Nate she's a very barbed character, which gives me a lot of space to write sarcastic stuff. I dunno she's always seemed pretty...tragicomic to me? I have a lot of space there to write a long log about Mari wandering around town trying to unpick her feelings for Rhys and failing again or to write an equally long log abt Mari finding a pot of something, putting the contents into her mouth, realising it's glue and eating it anyway because it tastes pretty good.
Also, she's a fucking dumbass some of her failures are funnier than sad.
5. Something about this character which makes me cry.
Uhhhhh big shocking fact I cried a lot writing some of her threads. I never admitted it because being accused of being attached/too involved in characters is a big fear for me (maybe that's why I'm always killing them off?). I don't think it was involvement; I'm not one of those people who look at threads and go "yep this person is perfect i can see no wrongs here" which would be pretty impossible w/ Mari for even the most involved player I think, even though a couple of (OOC) comments stung. I guess it was more since...um, obvious reasons I could draw on personal experience when it came to writing about grief and other negative emotions.
Here's a quick list anyway (it won't be a quick list. I'm so sorry, I must be super annoying at this point but she's my babe):
* I think she was falling in love with Rhys when he died.
* She was a little in love with Marijke.
* ...I could write pages on her relationship w/ Moirine/Marijke/Rhys and the weird love thing she had for them and happily will if you let me.
* I still can't tell if she actually loved Moirine or if that was just some kind of Stockholm Syndrome bleeding out of Moirine being the least threatening/most sympathetic of the three people she was forced to work for. Their entire relationship was just one big clusterfuck of dysfunction and it really did a number on her - you can see it in their last log. I think that last log's also a very good indicator of the psychological effect of their twin obsessions. Moirine assumes Mari is upset because she ratted on her to Allen (because Moirine is in love with Allen). Mari is upset because she feels Moirine is using information she told her in privacy to attack her (because Mari idks Moirine). It's just a giant clusterfuck of awful. I went back through their logs when I was chatting to someone the other day and I maybe made a Spotify playlist. Please don't judge me. I'm addicted to horrible relationships.
* Her entire friendship attempt with Cristo becomes really fervent on her end after he tells her he doesn't think she's a killer.
* She seems to lose everything every few years. It's partially her fault, partially fate.
* Abel was everything she wanted to be, everything she saw as privileged. And everything seemed to come easy to him - to her, when she was him.
* Which just underlines the fact that she doesn't want to be herself.
* Maybe because she was always left feeling like she wasn't enough by herself. There's several points in her logs where she says negative things about herself, like she has a personality nobody would want to marry, or something else. She comes across as pretty confident a lot of the time, but she lashes out very easily at anyone who seems to have it better than her/be better than her which is pretty indicative of the fact that sometimes outer confidence doesn't go too far. Which was why when Godric offered the chance to manipulate Belief, she grabbed it. She was always being - in her view - overpowered, overruled, treated like an idiot or a liar. Even though she brought it on herself a lot of the times, I guess that insecurity all teenage girls feel and her own unique circumstances went all perfect storm. But then she still wasn't right - she was frustrated by the thought that now nobody wanted her around.
* You can see a pretty marked difference on her idea of friendship from the beginning of the game to the end. It goes from something comradely to uuuhhh. Very capitalist, I guess? /she goes from viewing her relationship with Rhys as "ideal" to viewing her relationship with Cristo as "authentic."
* She goes from coping teen to struggling feral animal within the space of about six months.
* I DON'T KNOW SHAY. I DON'T FUCKING KNOW. NOW I KNOW WHY I TRY TO EMOTIONALLY DISTANCE MYSELF. THERE'S MORE I COULD PUT ON HERE. MORE.
* watch me actually add more geez I was reminded recently (going over the logs for something super important that definitely wasn't a thing where Mari and Cristo get matching tshirts and burn down an apple store) that Mari started getting anxiety attacks after Cristo broke her ear, and they became super regular after Rhys's death to the point where she wrote Cristo to ask if he'd help her to dig him up (which she then deleted...g-good decision??). No, I was just thinking I guess, if she'd had access to modern healthcare/hadn't been afraid to admit to them to anyone other than the werewolf trying to kill her, then a lot of the stuff that happened post-Rhys would not have. I'd love to re-do that, or at least get her some help. How ridic haha but seriously my dream log would be like, someone listening very calmly and then going all "ok so you realise you're traumatised and having an anxiety attack right? Here's the number of a therapist and I'm sitting right here til you call them." A disproportionate number of my cast have anxiety issues but I'd say it's a little justified here. IDK sometimes she is just the personification of Conversation 16 by The National - she hid her broken ear from Marijke and everyone else (until Lucia found out) because she did not want to disappoint anyone, and that is probably why she hides the anxiety attacks. She cried a lot (def more than anyone I've ever played) and a lot of that was from fear/in stressful environments but I don't think anyone picked up on that or linked the two.
* idk, Mari says she's only loyal to Moirine but you only need to look at this to see that really, it's Cristo who's the one lord she serves unconditionally. I mentioned above how he tells her she's not a killer, but there's other things; Mari has only really seen her herself as a tool in GH and a lot of her major cr treat her like a tool in various ways. Cristo treats her like a tool too. But even though he says he doesn't respect her, he does act with more respect than others - when he eats bits of her, he sticks to what she allows him to take; he offers her favours and a measure of protection in return. It's a pretty kind relationship - Tobias smashed her face into a wall and gave her to Silence; Silence poisoned her and threatened her life; Moirine threatened her life and gave her away twice (to the police and to Ira). Cristo is the best of all of those options, in her mind.

I saw the request! That's it. I saw the request and had a sort of image in my head for how he could be. I wanted someone stoic and grouchy, since the rest of the Liras were pretty bright and I like to rain on parades! I never really got his voice right in the beginning though - I think you can see that in his early posts. It got easier after I found a hook for him.
I kind of cringe at the fact that he seems like a total Redditor - believes in pick-up artists and misandry...I worry he sort of sways into MRA territory sometimes but hopefully just enough to be funny rather than sickening. It's weird that I find myself more comfortable playing murderers than I do playing sexists.
2. my favourite moment in canon for this character. / my favourite moment in the game for this character
IDK. When they gave Lucas the
forget-me-nowrohypnolmemory blast. It was a bit of emotional depth for a stupid guy!I loved his arguments with Umeka.
And all threads w/ Dan and Luca.
3. my favourite piece of headcanon for this character.
He and Umeka have long winded fights on Tumblr about everything SJ from the necessity of trigger warnings to feminism emasculating men. Dan occasionally has to step in to cool things down in their respective ask boxes.
He takes his nieces and nephews on wild holidays.
And bakes them cake
And runs a tidy bakery
4. Something about this character which makes me laugh.
Aw jeez. This is his hero. I don't know what else. He's just this massively pathetic bastard who doesn't realise all of his problems are made by him. What the heck Matheus! He's rich, he's talented, he's good looking, but he complains because girls don't like him being sleazy. Moron!

I first started w/ an idea for Rhea in a little world I started in my head when I was about thirteen or fourteen. She was really different - sort of dangerous, illiterate, a child soldier grown into a really quiet stoical mercenary who was a dead-eye but didn't speak much...so I guess she was a whole bunch of fun and I'm sort of glad no evidence of this world remains.
I started w/ her in Countshire because I'd apped her in a different game (evidence of that game still exists. Yikes.) and it had folded. It probably wasn't the best move, my first character in a game where I didn't know many people being a socially awkward lie detector, but it turned out to be a good move! I only apped her because she's easy to app.
2. my favourite moment in canon for this character. / my favourite moment in the game for this character
Uughhh I'll go game-by-game.
Countshire: OH BOY COULD IT BE WHEN SHE GOT SUPER DRUNK?? yes it was that time. i think she got sick on dan's shoes. it was super!
Capesize: IDK. Capers is just a blur of intense posts.
AM: any thread w/ hyun
GH: OH BOY OH BOY locking up the magus for sure. BAMF.
3. my favourite piece of headcanon for this character.
There is a Rhea in every generation of Ree's family.
I really liked the living in a cabin in the woods idea. She went from completely awkward and solitary to friendly and slightly outgoing and then she got hurt and retreated again. I figure after that, she'd have to be coached into leaving again.
Ree was actually a distant cousin of Mari.
I like the idea of Rhea getting dementia as an elderly person.
4. Something about this character which makes me laugh.
IDK! She's so socially awkward and clueless. That makes me laugh most, probably.
5. Something about this character which makes me cry.
She doesn't like tea.

Man Richie popped into my head completely fully formed. I didn't even have that much cr with Aidan at the time. I'm only going to do this for Richie because Rich is so different he might as well be named something else.
2. my favourite moment in canon for this character. / my favourite moment in the game for this character
When he proposed to Umeka.
His menage a trois with Tori and Ava
When he worked out Capri was an Immune while on a friendship date with her
Organising blind dates
Yeah Richie yeah.
3. my favourite piece of headcanon for this character.
I originally gave him heterochromia a) because I really loved his PB's design (toki ;;) and b) because I was listening to a lot of David Bowie. I think a lot of Richie's music collection is David Bowie too.
Richie wants to be a therapist. I like the idea that he becomes one and dedicates his life to taking care of people who really need it.
He and Umeka are/were best friends forever, come Shade or shine.
I like the knowledge that there are a lot of people out there he'd fight to the death for. Ava, Capri, and Umeka especially.
He only uses punctuation when he's so upset he can't hide how upset he is/is too upset to go back and change it.
I've just found out that Simon Pegg has heterochromia so in thirty years Simon Pegg will be Richie's pb.
4. Something about this character which makes me laugh.
It's really lovely to play someone so high energy and enthusiastic. It's nice to play a character where all the threads are happy. I play a lot of people who bring people down. It's nice to play Richie and be supportive, kind and a complete friend to everyone.
IDK?? Morally and relationship wise, he's just the best person I've ever played, I think. Especially since, considering the whole...lying thing, he's incredibly well adjusted and a huge promoter of self-care and is so actively...there for people. It just makes me smile. I love Ricardo.
5. Something about this character which makes me cry.
Richie is probably the biggest liar I've ever played and the least likely to be found out for lying. It's not that he's completely false in his affection or enthusiasms; he's a very serious young man beneath the capslock. There's two things I don't think anyone found out in game: a) how he got heterochromia (getting into a fist fight) and b) his obsession with the Lezard books.
His lies are a selfless/selfish thing: he doesn't want the people he loves to be as worried as he is about the world. Which means he must hold them at arm's length. I don't think he has a relationship where he is entirely and completely honest about anything. I don't know if he ever will. It would take something extremely drastic for Richie to show emotional honesty.
There's at least one AU where he and Aidan try to kill each other, out of love for each other.
It scares him that the Lezard family has so much power. At the same time, he wants that power; he wants to be head of the family. But he knows that even if he wants it to do good, it won't end well; it's a Gandalf and the One Ring situation.
6. One of your characters that I think would get along well with them
he will get on with all of them no exceptions
